Title: CAC-Joyce Microgrant Manager
Status: Part-time Independent Contractor, FLSA-exempt
The Chicago Artists Coalition (CAC) seeks a part-time Microgrant Manager responsible for developing, launching, and managing a new microgrant program for ALAANA, underrepresented, informally trained, and next generation artists. The program is generously funded by the Joyce Foundation. This is a one-year position, with the possibility of renewal for two additional years. The Manager reports to CAC’s Director of Exhibitions & Residencies.
Established in 1974, the Chicago Artists Coalition is a non-profit organization that supports emerging Chicago artists through education, artist residencies, and exhibitions—providing them with the resources to live, work, and thrive in the city. CAC is committed to building a diverse community of artist leaders who define the place of art in our city’s culture and economy, and to cultivating a wide-reaching civic, philanthropic, and public support network that enhances the impact of contemporary artists in Chicago.
With support and guidance from CAC’s Director of Exhibitions & Residencies and CAC’s team:
- Research local and national grant making for individual artists who are historically underrepresented and underserved
- Interview artists who have benefitted from individual grants for feedback
- Develop all aspects of CAC-Joyce Microgrant Program including program name, eligibility requirements, marketing materials, application, evaluation plan and more
- Assemble and manage microgrant jury
- Host information sessions for prospective applicants
- Administer first grant cycle
- Evaluate program
- Track program budget
- Other duties as necessary
Experience / Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess a proven track record of working with artists and nonprofit organizations. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the Chicago artist and arts professional communities. Additional familiarity with marginalized and non-traditional artist communities is a plus.
Other key skills and qualifications include:
- BA in arts-related field, or equivalent degree in arts administration or nonprofit management.
- At least 2-4 years of professional work experience in the nonprofit arts sector, preferred.
- Excellent writing, speaking, and overall communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and well-organized; ability to multi-task.
- Knowledge of the Chicago arts and nonprofit community, a plus.
- Ability to set and manage deadlines, and communicate and plan for necessary adjustments clearly and in a timely manner.
- Must be self-motivated, creative problem solver, and team-builder.
- Must be willing and available to work some evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, multiple Google platforms, and ability to learn and utilize other programs including e-Tapestry database and Campaign Monitor helpful.
- Basic graphic design skills are helpful.

This position offers a competitive hourly wage of $20/hour for 10-15 hours/week.
