Assistant Wardrobe Supervisor | Steppenwolf Theatre Company

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Assistant Wardrobe Supervisor. The Assistant Wardrobe Supervisor works as part of the wardrobe team running shows (including the application and maintenance of costumes, hair, makeup, and accessories throughout the run) and assisting the supervisor in pre-production show preparation and planning. The schedule varies, often including evening and weekend hours.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Run shows from pre-show prep (including maintenance) through in-show quick changes to post-show laundering and cleanup
  • Assist the Hair, Makeup & Wardrobe Supervisor in proactively collaborating with the costume shop, costume designers, actors, wig designer/makers, salons, and vendors to realize and maintain designs
  • Ensures that the work environments are safe, humane, and respectful

Compensation:

 

This is a non-exempt position. Compensation is competitive with prevailing compensation for similar positions within the non-profit performing arts industry. Requirements
Skills & Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Experience in theatrical wardrobe, hair, wig, and make-up techniques
  • Ability to maintain, prepare, and apply wigs and facial hairpieces
  • Working knowledge of machine and hand sewing, as well as knowledge of garment construction techniques
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to create and maintain clear paperwork
  • Problem solving skills and an ability to research and develop new techniques/materials
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to support artist’s individual needs 
  • Ability to work long hours with a flexible schedule

 

Two years of professional working experience in wardrobe is preferred.  Candidates with equivalent experience and expertise will be considered. This position will start on or about September 4, 2018.

 

Strong preference will be given to candidates with leadership experience and those with experience in hair styling, wig construction/maintenance, and makeup application.

 

This position reports to the Wardrobe, Hair, and Makeup Supervisor.
