Producing Internship | Full Spectrum Features

Full Spectrum Features (FSF) is a 501(c)3 committed to increasing diversity in the media by producing, exhibiting, and supporting the work of women, LGBT, and minority filmmakers.

FSF offers a 4-month internship in independent film producing. This is an unpaid internship, but current students can earn academic credit through DePaul, SAIC, Northwestern, Columbia College Chicago, and other regional schools. We also encourage prospective interns to seek funding and scholarship opportunities from an outside organization, fellowship, or other internship-placement program.

Note: This is not a production internship; there will be only limited opportunities to work on set.

Producing interns will have the opportunity to learn about above-the-line indie film producing and non-profit administration. They will gain hands-on experience in our thriving office, working closely with the Full Spectrum staff to support the development, production, and distribution of vital independent media. Our interns are a crucial part of our organization, and are empowered to work in a self-directed manner. Specific work assignments will be catered towards the intern's interests and skills when possible. The internship will also include an educational component focused on professional development.

Producing interns will have the opportunity to learn the following skills, relevant for jobs in independent film producing, production management, and arts administration:

  • Production planning and scheduling

  • Casting

  • Hiring crew and negotiations

  • Independent filmmaking contracts and legal matters

  • Exhibition and distribution

  • Budgeting
